The policy is taken in the north in the direction of Tungufellsdalur, a forest of mature and beautiful, incredibly humble. Continue on until there is a line road that we follow all the way to Helgaskálair, our nightspot on this first night. Approximately 25 km day trip.
Day 2
Take the day early, an exciting day ahead. Help us to harness and get ready. Jonas named Kristjánsson editor describes the way of the day as follows:
“We pass along the mighty gorges of Stóra-Laxá, a rugged and beautiful, one of the most magnificent canyons in the country. The actual canyons start from the top where Leirá falls into the Great Laxá from the north. The canyons are ten kilometres down to the deserted farm Hrunakrókur above Kaldbak. Their depth is 100-200 m. The narrowest and top part is called the Black Canyon. In sections, the canyon walls are transverse to both sides, but in some places are wider. The canyons are widespread or even incapable of walkers. Both humans and animals have fallen down and been injured. Big-Laxá runs silver clear in the bottom. ”
We are careful! Rides a good trail away from all the traffic and daily cattle, horses and people of Icelandic nature. Everyone is starting to feel good about the saddle and enjoying the country’s nature even more. Resting horses and men on the town of Kaldbak, the top farm in the Hrunamannahreppur. Then we continue as we pass through the deserted farm, Klufter, from which was one of the most famous cows in the country, Huppa frá Kluftum. We ride Fagradalur and then turn west and end again at Brúarhlöðir after leaving, among other things. past the town of Hlid in the War Crimes. There, Fjalla-Eyvindur was born and grew up. From there it’s a short drive to Myrkholt.
Day 3 Geysir Geothermal Area – Tungnafljót – Myrkholt
After a long day yesterday, it is good to have a quieter ending day. After a hearty breakfast, we set off and ride in the direction of Haukadalsskógur, which enters the Geysys area. Forestry has been there since the middle of the last century. It is a unique experience to ride good streets through beautiful woods. We go another way home; rides the crystal clear river Tongue that caters and refreshes the horses and shortens the way home in Myrkholt! We will enjoy one last evening together with a hearty meal and then say goodbye to humans and horses.
Day 4 Myrkholt – Reykjavik
All good things must come to an end. After breakfast, we’ll say goodbye before the bus takes us back to Reykjavík City.
